Update Complete

The day you have all been waiting for [ well, me anyway] has arrived. The rebrand  is finalised and the new website and blog interface has gone live.

I have already thanked the guys at Osborne Nash for their work on the concept and new logo, so now it falls to me to profer up huge thanks to David the webgod of Freeflow Studio, for making  it all come together with such a clean, stylish website, which truly reflects what I am about with my photography. David,  lager and Twirls, seems like poor thanks for such a great job – a big public man hug for you!!!

Model Portfolio Shoot – Norwich

After another couple of days of shooting new faces and some updates for Sandra Reynolds Model Agency, I’ve posted a few of my favorite images.

It always amazes me how some people just have what is required to succeed as a model. For me it is virtually impossible to define that that “it” is but it is immediately recognisable and it is not directly related to looks.

Rebranding.

Well the time has come  for a bit of an update and fresh start.  I am constantly looking to improve my services and am confident that  my skills have improved over time, as a result of hard work, practice and study.  I wanted the new look of Rob Ward Photography to reflect the  quality of my work and to be somewhat more stlyish and subtle than previous  guises.

Sometimes it is hard to get away from  existing ideas and so on this occasion I decided to bring other people into the process. The timing was perfect when I  happened to meet Lee and Neil from Osborne Nash at  Nicky & Ian’s wedding recently, so a trip to their offices followed shortly afterwards.

After a meeting with  Neil and the lovely Emilie some new ideas were born. I had a choice of many cracking ideas but the new look was definitely my favorite and says, I feel, exactly what I wanted it to.

Having to work on outstanding  shoots at the same time has meant that the  considerable bits and pieces of  branding haven’t been rolled out all in one go , but I am doing as much as I can as quickly as possible and David the webgod at Freeflow Studio is currently  working on what is going to be a very stylish new website. I’ve seen the  mockup and am very excited.

To co- incide with the new look , I am  redoing all my brochures and literature and am using the opportunity to  bring in  some exciting new products- so watch this space!

Wedding Photography Suffolk, Rachel and Mark, St Margaret’s,Lowestoft

A day of mixed weather  saw, me heading out to Lowestoft for the wedding of Rachel and Mark. I started by catching up with Rachel and her bridesmaids getting ready at her mum’s house, before moving on to the church to catch up with Mark and his groomsmen.

Rachel had the cutest of flowergirls, who were very photogenic and were really well behaved all day and took part in all the photographs despite the cold.

After the wedding ceremony we all headed back to Sprowston Manor for the wedding reception. Once more the weather played ball long enough to be able to complete the photography. Throughout Rachel put up with the cold and did her very best to not go blue!!!

Having worked abroad for maany years, Rachel had a phenominal number of guests who had travelled from all corners of the globe to be with her and Mark.

During the speeches, Mark treated the guests to his rendition of Albert Brennamans dance [ from the film Hitch] . I will spare his blushes by not posting an image here.

Following the wedding breakfast there was a bit of a sunset which we were able to make use of for some pictures prior to the evening guest arriving. Again quite cold – so big credit to Rachel for “going for it” whilst we got these great shots.

Location Portraiture

Today I headed into town to meet up with Emma and her family. She had telephoned me a few weeks ago to arrange a photo shoot as she and her  family were having a get together over  Easter. We had  originally planned to do the shoot in Chapelfield Gardens, but with only a day or two to go I remebered that the Easter fair would be there. Plan B was hatched and we did the shoot in the gardens of the appartment block where they were staying. It was a bright sunny day so we  were able to use the sun for backlighting and worked in the shade of some trees to soften the light.

As can be seen, Emma’s daughter was a lot keener on posing than some of the older members of the family!!

Commercial Photography – Hackney London

Today I managed to avoid the horrible weather of Norfolk by travelling down to London with Katie & Maria from Sandra Reynolds Model Agency. We were shooting  a new faces and updates session for some London based models and were using a hired studio based in ‘ackney.  The place was what can only really be described as ” an experience” – maybe we have been spoilt up here with standard of the studio  at Sandra Reynolds or indeed, my own studio, but they did have handy access to a park some some location shots just over  the road.

Bury St Edmonds – Pre Wedding shoot – Colleen & Paul

I headed down to Bury St Edmonds to day to meet up with Colleen & Paul for their pre wedding shoot around the grounds of the Abbey . I was tempted to put the roof down on the way as the weather was just glorious, but decided that  I woud be too windswept after bombing down the A11, so saved it for after.

I have to admit that in all the times I had been to Bury St Edmonds before [ I have friends who used to live there], I had never set foot in the  Abbey  grounds. Apart from the fact that it was the start of the Easter Holidays and the world and his wife were there, it is a great place for a shoot.

On the way to meet up wth Colleeen & Paul I took a wrong turn and ended up  on the other side of town from the Abbey. Knowing it was much of a walk I decided to just park up and walk through – I hadn’t been for amny years so was  quite surpised to see the new [?] Debenhams building – very space age and would be worth some photography in it’s own right with suitable lighting conditions.

Had a great shoot around the grounds – I always love the pre wedding shoots. They are so worthwhile as they give me a chance to “get to know” the couple before their wedding, plus everyone who has one says that it really help them to get comfortable in front of the camera.

It wasn’t until we had pretty much finished and had just taken the previous shoot , that I walked past the sign below,

I thought the park keeper, who cutting the grass nearby, was giving us funny looks!! Whoops!!

After the shoot, we were going to stop by what is possibly the smallest pub in the world, The Nutshell, but unfortunately there were already three people in there so there was no room……

Family Portrait Session : Charlie & Antje

I had a most enjoyable shoot today.  Charlie and Antje were up in Norfolk and had scheduled in a family photo shoot. I had shot their wedding about 5 years ago, so it was really great to catch up with them again. Obviously I was very pleased to meet and be asked to photograph their daughter, Kiara.

It is always so nice to  stay in touch with couples after the wedding.  From this point, my work is quite strange, I often spend  a big part of a very important day with a couple and then, either because of geography or life in general, not see them again.

The arrival of a ladybird just made the shoot for me…

Lake District Points of View

Further to my previous post about the photography course  I held in The Lake District in February for the Field Studies Council, I am pleased to be able to show you some of the work by members of the group. The learners were all at different levels  in their photographic abilities but all have produced some great work – well done guys.

If you would like to come and join the fun, the next course is running at the end of August. Please contact Janet at The Blencathra Centre to book.

In no particular order :-

Sandringham Park – Michelle & Ben, Pre Wedding Shoot

It was another overcast, slightly misty day as I arrived at Sandringham Park to meet up with Michelle & Ben for their pre wedding shoot. I mention this  simply because every time I have been to Sandringham the weather has been exactly the same – I’m sure it is sunny here sometimes? In any event the light with this kind of weather is ideal for portraiture, beautifully soft although not particularly directional.

Michelle & Ben arrived with  Sophia and we got stuck in. There were some lovely autumnal colours remaining in the woodland and Sophia was fascinated by the mole hills.

A short but enjoyable shoot.
